Reflection on wave’s lab number 2 1/12/11
For the second wave lab that we did in class I worked with Maria L. Our assignment was to try out a short experiment with waves. We had to do the same test just with some variations 9 times, the first three times we didn’t put any barriers in front of the waves starting point. We observed the wave length and recorded it in a drawing (each drawing had the wave start from a different part of the tray this changed the wave pattern). The second and third time we tried the same thing just added 1 barrier and then added one more. Adding the barriers affected the wave pattern and frequency, the waves that pass the barriers would have a lower frequency and would have a regular pattern. But the waves that remained in the enclosed surface had a higher frequency and had a pattern that constantly bounced from side to side (plastic to barrier and back).
Personally I think that this experiment was a great idea because it gives some hands on experience early on in the unit. This is like the foundations of a building; this knowledge supports the one we will gain further on. Meaning that we will remember this experiment and the way a wave works because it was gained early on in the unit. Doing a similar experiment later on in the unit would allow us to see the same thing just in a different way, and this lets us learn even more and also remember the things we learned earlier.
Even though you didn't include images of your drawings, I like how you described the process and your observations. However, the concluding sentence was missing from your report. Don't forget that the whole purpose of an investigation is to answer the guiding question. Otherwise, you did a good job.
