Now we know that the great pumpkin exists, but scientists have when even further and fund out how did it manage to grow so big. It is a type of self-perpetuating rotation, the larger the gourd gets the more physical stress the pumpkin experiences, this triggers more growth.
The weight of the pumping generates tension which pulls cells apart and accelerates the growth process. Says David Hu a mechanical at the Georgia institute of technology in Atlanta whose team has submitted a paper to a peer reviewed journal. Researchers like Hu Don’t just research the story behind record sized pumpkins, like the nearly 1,811 pound giant found this month by the Guinness world records. They also address larger scientific questions about plant development an example would be how tissue copes under stress.
All giant pumpkins are grown from a single strain, the famous Atlantic Giant seed, the seed has a longer growing season that normal pumpkins. The Pumpkin starts out round, but over time once it exceeds 220 pounds they tend to flatten under their own weight. If you are wondering how come that the pumpkins are so huge and don’t split. Mr. Hu says that the seeds are themselves stronger that average seeds and that the pumpkins that grow from the Atlantic seeds are much stronger.
I think that these pumpkins are over sized because the seeds got changed somewhere in the process of evolution they could have mixed with another type of giant seed which causes the pumpkins to be so large. I Also guessed that the pumpkins had been naturally effected.
